Description: This
project was a residence for a Bukowskiesque author, creating difficult
living conditions in order to aid the writing process. Its form is
based on layering, and the design played upon themes of claustrophobia,
sight and sound. Using the fact that the site was adjacent to a major
railway line, I split the space into two parts. One part was silent,
forcing a view of the train wheels as trains ran by. The other part
had no exterior views, but allowed maximum sound from the train
tracks. The building has a glass roof, designed to collect rain water,
giving opaque lighting conditions inside, and concealing the buildings
existence from the outside.
